Welcome… this is a place where you can share your work, ask ruminating questions and challenge yourself with engaging assignments! Home Room is a free learning opportunity designed to provide a space for collaboration and artistic growth during this challenging time.

The Essentials

Twice a month DJP will host a Zoom conference at 8:00pm ET (that’s 5:00pm PT). The bi-monthly event will last approximately 2 hours, depending on the number of submissions we receive. Our next Home Room is on Thursday, July 13, 2023.

To join us, you must register for each Home Room you plan to attend. Watch this page for the registration links for upcoming sessions.

The content of the next session will focus on four categories. This is where I need you! Please choose only one of the following categories and submit image files or questions.  

1) Photo Question – No limits here… submit 1 question related to anything in photography (camera functions, gear, exposure, editing, etc.). Submit one question per session to doug@dougjohnsonphotography.com *Include “Home Room Question Submission” in the subject line.

2) Image Processing – Upload 1 image that you would like to see my suggestions for post-processing. DNG file format is preferred, but not required if you capture jpeg files (full size) 

3) Image Critique – Upload 1 image, anything goes!

4) Assignment Image Critique – Submit up to 3 images (full size jpeg) which demonstrate the concept “hop, skip, and a jump.” Think about how your eye moves through the photo; can you create a visual hop, skip and a jump for our eye to travel through the frame?

*IMPORTANT: Submissions for Thursday, July 13 must be received by Tuesday, July 11. If you are submitting, please make sure you also register for Home Room so you get the Zoom link!

Guidelines for Submitting to Home Room

For image submissions:

• Rename the files with your first, last name initial and the intent of the submission, e.g. dougj_summer.dng

• Do not resize when exporting from the software you use

• If you shoot RAW files: DNG is preferred for processing and critique files

• Submit images thru: www.wetransfer.com to doug@dougjohnsonphotography.com
